Your Mami

I was born September 6, 1987 in Brownsville, Texas. I grew up in Mercedes Texas, right next to the border. I remember going to Monterrey (mama mechon, prende me el mechon, ke me voy pa Monterrey… you used to sing that all the time when you were 2-3 years old) almost every other weekend to be with Grandma Coco and Grandpa Alex. I loved being able to always be with my mom and her parents. It was a wonderful time because I would always get to be with my favorite cousins, Gina, Tavo and the rest of Tia Ana’s kids…ohh the fun we had!!
Anywho back to me! I am the middle child of three, there’s Tio Tito and Tia Nini, whom love you very much! Being in the middle was tough for me, not saying my parents didn’t love me or anything but I always felt there was favoritism among us regardless I always knew I was Daddy’s Little Girl and I loved it. Daddy was hardly around until the age of 11 or so. He used to work here in Houston and mom, Robert, Nini, and I lived in Mercedes. He soon got tired of us living so far away and him having to travel every two weeks to see us, so he moved us to Houston.
Life here was totally different; for once we needed a car to get around, versus always walking to places! It was louder, more kids in school, not to mention a wide variety of nationalities. I had never seen an African American until I came here… funny huh? You see in valley it was nothing but white folk and Mexicans! Let me tell you a funny story, embarrassing for me but ohh a great memory. My first day in school, first time riding a bus from school here in Houston, I got lost. I was terrified. I remember thinking, this ride is taking too long and almost everyone had gotten off the bus so I simply got off the bus and thought, oh I can find my house. I walked and walked and walked for what seemed an eternity up and down the street before mine!! Until finally a lady realized I was lost and asked to give me a ride around the neighborhood to find my house…. They quickly found it! And I was soo relieved and I cried and cried my eyes out to my mom. That same year we moved here to Houston was the first time I got my period… [I’ll get with you on that later!!] Regardless of the fact, that moving here was tough, I loved it because I got to be with my daddy all the time! Besides that, had we not moved to Houston, you might of never been conceived.
I had good grades throughout school. A-B student, honor roll student. I remember once in the valley I tried out for choir, didn’t make it and that was the end of it for me ever trying to sing again. I loved art class and made third place at a rodeo drawing contest in 5th grade. I joined band in 6th grade, I played the clarinet with great pride!! Most of my friends were in band, and it was so much fun, because we basically knew that we always got together and had fieldtrips and competitions together and that was time to hang out and have fun.
My seventh grade was fun, I was in JROTC and I loved it basically because I ranked high and was able to tell everyone else what to do, lol. [ I hope you know what lol means, laughing out loud] I stuck to band and I also played soccer. That was the most fun because it brought my father and I closer and like I said before, I loved being daddy’s girl. I also got to meet great girls, that to this day I still talk to. That was the year I fell in love with History and being able to remember dates, if I could I would have majored in history.
Eighth grade was also nice. I remember being in home room and our teacher would get us donut holes every Friday and my friends and I would love it because it was the time we got to socialize and have fun. Towards the end of this year I experienced my first heartbreak. [don’t worry… once you get through it, everything is great]
Ninth grade was just awesome! I became best friends with Mayte [ you might remember her] && it was the best of the best times. I learned soo much and grew up so fast. I learned how to drive towards the end of this year. I also stood in my first and only XV. I made lots of new friends and I also dealt with a lot of people who’s opinion of me wasn’t that nice. I quit band this year as well, I wasn’t able to get ready for my XV and then go to band practice and get ready to perform in football games. This was the year I met your daddy, and I was attracted to him the first time I ever saw him. Great times at Lil Ike!!
Tenth grade- more fun, football games, French classes, projects, met my great friend Vane. Betty was pregnant. Got to see my old soccer friends. Enjoyed it to the fullest.
Eleventh grade- I chilled through this year… it was basically awesomeness.
Twelfth grade- Your daddy and I got together [again] and the rest is history…I was pregnant my senior year, I went to prom pregnant, I graduated pregnant. I had a babyshower instead of a graduation party. Senior year was tough because on top of being a senior I was also pregnant and that was a bad combo only because I had a lot of morning sickness and missed some of 1st period. The clicka [ a group of friends your father and I had] as we called it became really really close and then we all went our separate ways. In the end we hold very fond memories of that senior year…class of 06 baby!!
After graduation I attended Texas School of Business and graduated in 07 with my certification of Medical Office Specialist…. I am now working in the Woodlands with two EP Cardiologist. I hope to soon be able to go back to school and further my education.
God has blessed me to see you so far to see you become three. So far this is what life has given me. I hope to be able to share many more great memories with you. Always remember that you are my world and all I have done and will do is because of you. I love you more than words express, I know angels exist because God blessed me with you.
Love,
Mami
